Led Zeppelin Merchandise - What Is And What Will Be
Led Zeppelin merchandise can mean different things. Are you looking for a T-shirt with a really cool photo of the band in concert? Or a mug with a mighty Zeppelin logo? Well, sorry. You won’t find that stuff here! Lots of terrific websites specialize in licensed Led Zeppelin clothing and other items. Here on Learn-about-Led.com, you’ll find that “merchandise” means collectibles or memorabilia. And those are important pieces of Led Zeppelin history.Concert posters, tickets and stubs, promo kits from record companies and especially the albums and CDs (both official and otherwise) that I collected at record shows have been priceless tools while researching, learning and writing about my favourite group. I’ve also met some interesting people who have built a career or created a profitable hobby based on their passion for Led Zeppelin memorabilia and collectibles. Their stories are so fascinating, I’ll be sharing them with you here soon. Merchandise and Memorabilia. What’s the difference? Some items start off as Led Zeppelin merchandise but later become a collectible or piece of memorabilia. For example, at the Summerfest series in Buffalo, New York, souvenir buttons were sold to promote Led Zeppelin’s concert there on August 6, 1977. At the time, these buttons were produced in quantity and would have been considered merchandise. Now that so many years have passed – and that particular concert was cancelled – these original buttons have achieved collectible status. According to memorabilia expert, Rick Barrett, reproductions made in the 1980s are very difficult to discern from the originals. Memorabilia also includes one-of-a-kind items such as pieces of original correspondence. Or items produced in a limited quantity, such as numbered test pressings made in Atlantic Records’ studio. With some exceptions, merchandise produced after Zeppelin disbanded is just that. Merchandise. The Future of Our MerchandiseAt Learn-about-Led.com, we won’t be selling Led Zeppelin merchandise but we will have other items for sale besides the book that’s currently available (Sonic Boom: The Impact of Led Zeppelin.
