[Sept Enzep] - Bittersweet September September 23, 2011 |
Been a Long TimeIt’s “been a long time, been a long time, been a long lonely, lonely, lonely...” (well, you get the idea) time since our last ezine. We hope your summer rocked hard! In our last issue, we mentioned that our Enzepplozine is changing. From now on, we’ll be sending you occasional news, updates and special offers to keep in touch and let you know what we’re doing. We plan to keep creating content, though, and we have daily updates Monday through Friday on our Facebook Fan page. The reason we’re doing this is so we can devote more time to other aspects of our business. We both have real jobs (sorta!), so keeping up with all things Zep has become more than we can handle every month. But the passion’s still there and we hope you’ll stick around. Frank has been working on an e-book about the history of bootlegs (with special reference to Zep, of course!). And Lou Anne has been working on the e-book version of Sonic Boom! More on that in a minute. We launched Enzepplopedia and officially published our first book three years ago this month. Hard to believe that much time has passed. It has been a real adventure, thanks to you! We have a lot to tell you. Read on! Musically yours in Zep, Frank and Lou Anne
We Have a Winner!Congratulations to Ken MacLeod for having won the beautiful lithograph of Led Zeppelin’s “First Performance”, courtesy of Danish rock photographer, Jørgen Angel. We hope it rocks your world for years to come!Fond FarewellsSadly, two dear friends of Enzepplopedia’s (both of whom were interviewed in Sonic Boom) passed away this summer. Howard Mylett’s name is sure to be known to most of you. He was an avid fan and admirer of the band’s but he also chronicled Led Zeppelin in a number of ground-breaking books. Howard was very kind and generous with his time and in sharing his photographs, memories and love of Led with us. We miss him, his stories and emails very much and extend our most sincere condolences to his family.Zani Dani was like a den mother to the members of Led Zeppelin when the band was on tour in the U.S. She didn’t want her real name published in our book, so we’ll respect that and not publish it here. But she was a charming woman and a true child of the ‘60s, right to the end. It was a delight to have met her through our work. Our deepest sympathy to her husband, John, and her very dear friend, Eric Albronda. Exciting News and Fantastic Fall Specials!September is always a bittersweet time for Led Zeppelin’s fans. The month is the alpha and omega of the band, beginning with its first-ever public performance on September 7, 1968 and tragically ending with the death of drummer John Bonham on September 25, 1980.
Until now, the enormity of the latter event has always overshadowed the band's many accomplishments just prior. Renowned Led Zeppelin author, Dave Lewis, has revisited the band’s 14-date tour of Europe through in-depth analysis of their gigs from his personal diaries, photo files and supporting materials from his own collection and others’.
It’s a fascinating read for any Zeppelin fan who wants to remember the “tour that time forgot”. Enzepplozine EXCLUSIVE!Because we’re planning to launch the e-book version of Sonic Boom soon, we’re going to be offering the hardcover version at a special price between now and Christmas. But we won’t be making this offer public for a few weeks.Right now, we’re selling Sonic Boom online for $59.95 (shipping included for North America). But, if you purchase it for that price, we’ll send you an extra copy of Sonic Boom to give as a Christmas gift, donate to your local library or to sell on eBay for more than you paid! PLUS...the first thirty orders will be signed by Frank. The reason we can make this offer is because, by shipping two books in the same order, what we save on our shipping costs can lower the price of the book for you. AND you’ll still get the bonus e-book about JJ Jackson and Led Zeppelin! To get your two copies for the price of one, simply order and pay for one book at: http://www.enzepplopedia.com/sonic-boom/ IMPORTANT: Just mark the quantity as “1”. Lou Anne will personally look after sending you two and, if you’re one of the first thirty people to order, she’ll make sure one of your copies has been signed by Frank. Why order the hardcover when the e-book is coming out soon? Because the e-book is text only. The hardcover has hundreds of photos and it’s a commemorative limited edition any serious collector will want for keeps. Sonic Boom is about the earliest days of your favourite band. Feather in the Wind: Led Zeppelin over Europe 1980 is about the last. What lies between is the greatest music in rock history. Relive it. Be part of it. Thanks again for your support of our Enzepplozine and of all things Led.
