[Apr Enzep] - Good Times Bad Times April 29, 2011 |
Taxing Times in April. Dancing Days Ahead! There’s a lot going on in the Led Zeppelin community these days, as well as for my editor/sister and me. So this month’s edition is more of an update to let you know what’s happening. It has been ages since the last Led Zeppelin convention but that’s about to change the last weekend of May, with ZepFest 2011 in Washington, DC. Although I was honoured to be invited as one of the author presenters, I had to decline because of commitments with my “real” job. But Lou and I hope that you - our friends, colleagues and Zep fans from around the world - will have a rocking great time hot-doggin’ it there. We wish Mark Boudreau and his team of organizers every success. Led Zeppelin chronicler and editor of the all-Zep Tight But Loose magazine, Dave Lewis, will be releasing the next edition of his mag in May. Dave has also been putting the finishing touches on his next print book, Feather on the Wind. It tells the tale of the band’s last tour, “Zeppelin Over Europe 1980” in the way only someone with Dave’s firsthand experience and close rapport with Zeppelin can. Ever since Lou Anne and I published Sonic Boom and got our first Enzepplopedia website going, we’ve been holding a contest. Well, it’s time to give away our prize – a beautiful lithograph of Led Zeppelin’s first-ever performance, created and graciously provided by award-winning Danish rock photographer, Jørgen Angel. We’ll be contacting and verifying the winner in the next few weeks and we’ll tell you who won it in our next issue of this Enzepplozine. Good Times, Bad Times Next, we have some good news, bad news. The bad news is that we’re winding down our Enzepplozine as you know it. The good news is that we’ll still be keeping in touch. Our faithful Enzepploziners (= ezine subscribers) will be first to know about anything that’s happening here at learn-about-led or our main site, Enzepplopedia.com. But there won’t be a content-heavy, monthly ezine. More like quick email updates as things happen. Why are we doing this? Because we need to spend more time on other aspects of our business. For example, we still hope to eventually publish Volumes 2 and 3 of our series. We haven’t forgotten but, as John Lennon said, “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.” We’re also going to be taking some of our earlier Enzepplozine content public on our sites in order to reach more lovers of Led. Lou Anne is working on an e-book version of Sonic Boom. We’re really excited about this. It will be available in various formats, not just a PDF. As soon as it is, we’ll let you – our Enzepploziners – know about it first so we hope you’ll continue to be a subscriber. I’ve been working on a brand-new e-book about bootlegs for quite a while now. It’s progressing nicely and I’m super-excited about it. Again, though, things always take longer than you think. It’s funny, but I set the manuscript aside (more real-life stuff!) for a couple of months just to come back at it with fresh eyes. When I did, it was really weird. I felt like I was seeing it for the very first time and that someone else had written the most amazing book. Then I realized, “Hey, wait a minute! This is MY book!!!” So I think you’ll find it totally fascinating, too. I hope so, anyway! That’s it for this month’s Enzepplozine. Stay tuned for more news – and our litho winner – in next month’s final edition. From both of us, our heartfelt thanks to all of you for supporting our Enzepplozine and for having made Volume 1 Break and Enter the success it has been. We look forward to bringing you more information about your favourite band and ours in future.
